My Visit to NYC/The Anderson Cooper Show
My first visit to New York City was pretty awesome. The studio wanted me to change my hair from bright pink (booo, since I’d just had it dyed two days prior) so they paid to send me to a salon called Dramatics NYC. After much deliberation, they decided on what color would give me the effect I was looking for. It turned out great, and now I have bright reddish auburn hair. It should be pretty easy to dye it bright red over it once it starts to fade a bit. Blanco did a great job.
I stayed at a hotel on the Upper West Side called The Lucerne. It was really decent. I didn’t get back to my hotel until about 6:30 so I went out and walked around. I stopped at a burrito place and had the most amazing barbecued chicken burrito I’ve ever had in my life. I got some delicious cupcakes and I stopped at this used book store and picked up some used graphic novels.
I went back to my hotel and read more of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Let me just say that I only started reading this book because I wanted to see the David Fincher movie after reading the book. Side note: Normally, I don’t get down with the whole shit-hyped movie/book series thing. I’ve never read the Harry Potter or Twilight books, but the times I have followed these trends, I’ve ended up disappointed. I have higher standards, I guess. Anyway, I finished the book within two days of starting it. Not because it was so good I couldn’t put it down, mostly because when you’re stuck in an airport or on a plane, there isn’t much better to do. It helps that I’m a super fast reader. The book was decent. It entertained me, but I don’t think it’s worth all the hype. Sorry to the people that think it’s the most amazing thing ever. I watched both versions of the movie when I got home. Again, they were decent, nothing to write home about.
Shooting the show was really fun! 30 Rock takes on a whole new meaning when you see the inner workings of a TV studio. Of course, in this case, it wasn’t nearly as funny as 30 Rock. I had my hair and make-up done, and then it was show time. I honestly didn’t get much time to talk. The other phone sex operator got a little more airtime, which is fine because I agreed with everything she said. I was just thankful for the opportunity to be on the show. Speaking of which, the name of the show is “Are Stay at Home Moms Lazy?”, which I think was inspired by one of the moms’ comments on the show. One of the moms was talking about how she doesn’t have time to work out since she has two young children. Another mom interjected and said that it’s possible to find time if you’re not lazy. ZOMG DRAMA!! As you can imagine, that pissed off a lot of moms in the audience, as well as Kathy Lee Gifford, who was there for the next segment.
I told you guys I’d let you know when the show is going to air, and I finally know! It’s this Wednesday. It’s syndicated, so check your local listings or go to www.andersoncooper.com and scroll all the way down, and you can enter your zip code and it shows you what channel and time it’s going to be on. If you’re in Madison, it’s on channel 3 this Wednesday, January 11th at 4PM. Set your DVRs to record it! Also, you can view a preview of the show.
For all of you guys that think that Anderson is gay, after meeting him I have to say I disagree. My gaydar wasn’t going off at all. He seems more metrosexual to me. If you don’t know what that means, I even hyperlinked it for you, read it.
I met a stage supervisor for SNL while I was in New York. He said I should come try out in September. I might do that. I doubt I’d make the cut, but hey, at least I could say I tried!
